Spring Makeup Trends
Spring has sprung and the good weather can’t get here fast enough! Here are some of the hottest new makeup trends for spring that will instantly wash away the dullness of a cold and lingering New England winter. Fresh new makeup will leave you looking and feeling brighter and happier. I had the pleasure of working with a few local bloggers to try out some new trends. This season it’s all about dewy looking skin, metallics, pops of peaches , rose gold, & dotted eyeliner
Lets start with one of my absolute favorites, dotted liner! There are multiple different ways to wear this look and you could add as little as one dot or many depending on the type of look that you are trying to achieve. Here is one example of how to get this look.
Dotted cat eye
Step 1: Create a classic cat eye. You can use a gel or felt tip eyeliner to draw a classic cat eye along your upper lash line.
To do this I recommend using MAC’s fluid line in Black track along with an angled liner brush or Stila’s stay all day liquid liner in jet black.
Step 2: Add some dots: there’s no set number or rule to this. You can either use your felt tip liner or what I personally like to do is take a pointed q-tip applicator and just dip the tip of it into my gel liner. Then draw evenly spaced dots along your lower lash line. You don’t have to stick with black! You could also try using different colors for a more fun and creative look.
*For a more baby doll effect, try placing a single bold dot just in the center of your lower lash line.
Rose Gold & Metallics
Rose gold and metallics have been popping up everywhere lately! You see it in clothing , jewelry, accessories, hair, nails & now makeup!
If you are looking to capture a rose gold inspired look, like the one that I did on Amy, you can follow the steps bellow.
Eyes: For eyes you could try playing with the Urban Decay Naked 3 palette. It has a variety of pink, blush and rose gold tones in it. Place one or multiple colors on the lid to achieve the effect you desire and then blend a chocolatey brown color in the crease for added depth and dimension.
Cheeks: I used Benefit’s Rockateur blush then layered Mac extra dimension skin finish in beaming blush on top for a rosey glow.
Lips: First line the lips with NARS Rosebud lip liner. Then fill in with Mac bombshell lipstick.
*If you want to give this rose gold lip more of a metallic edge to it like I did you can layer Mac Jupiter lipstick on top from their new Metallics collection.
*If you are using metallics on your eyes it’s always best to use an eye primer first. This way the shadow will adhere better to the skin and last throughout the day.
*If you want to increase the intensity of the metallic try applying it on top of a cream shadow or applying it with a wet brush. Especially if you are working with a lose pigment. These two methods will definitely allow it to stick better.
Peach is a super easy way to add a pop of color to your complexion and seems to be a recurring spring and summer staple. So much so that Too Faced cosmetics even has its own peach collection.
For a perfectly peachy pout like Alexa’s start by lining your lips with NARS lip liner in Anise Soleil, then apply MAC sweet venom lipstick on top. To finish the look add Too Faced tickle me peach to the center of the lips.
Last but not least, we have dewy skin. You are definitely not short of options when it comes to achieving this look. Especially with the large array of highlighter pallets and liquid illuminates that are out there. The choices are endless.
*One tip I like to give is that if you tend to have more of a combination/oily skin type you would probably want to stick with a powder to highlight or create an all over glow.
*If you run more on the dry side a liquid is probably best.
Two of my favorite highlighters are Mary Lou Manizer by: The Balm and Becca Shimmering skin perfector.
To obtain a more natural or soft glow you can try Dermalogica’s Phyto replenish oil. We carry this right here at Bow & Arrow.
*Try mixing it with your foundation or place it on top of your makeup on your forehead, cheeks, chin and down the center of your nose for an all over glow.
Now you are ready for spring, but is spring ready for you? If you still want to know more stop by Bow & Arrow Collective anytime for a makeup lesson or get one of these looks put on you for a fun night out.
